RE: Air filter on TV.

If you buy any name brand spray degreaser(like the stuff they sell at Costco) it works just fine to clean the filter. Spray it on the dirty side then rinse through the back with a hose. Set it out in the sun to dry then re-oil with the red oil K&N provides. I don't use K&N's in my vehicles I use them to filter the air in my house so I clean them once or twice a year. K&N cleaning kits are very expensive so I just use their oil.

In the absence of a manual you can get a subscription(online) to Alldatadiy.com. Thats Alldata do it yourself. I have them for all my vehicles and have been real happy with all they provide. They also give you all the service bulletins which is real helpful too.

Here are a few generic ideas. Generally the sensors are magnetic and attract and hold rust particles. Sometimes that will set a code. Give them a cleaning might help. Check the wires to the sensors for any abrasion or damage. If you pick up new sensors, sometimes they are wheel specific so be careful when you purchase. Check the tone rings for hairline cracks which will also set a code. Some ABS pumps need a software update or new pump to clear codes.

Can you help sort out my plumbing valves ?

The photo is looking down from above onto the side of my fresh water tank in my 96 Jayco Eagle. The manual with the rig is no help. I do know that the bottom right valve drains the tank but the others I have no clue. I never hook up to city water and use the on board pump. There is also a valve not visible in the photo on the gray line thats off to the right. And that clear plastic line that just dead ends-whats that about? thanks for any insights.

If you have a Cummins dealer near you they will have or can order the service manual and parts manual for your unit. I have the manuals for mine and it's real good with troubleshooting procedures, diagrams and all. The troubleshooting is too much for me to type here but maybe some more knowledgeable guys might chime in with some leads.

I used a flex head gear wrench on mine. It's one of those wrenches that the head moves like your wrist. It made the job go much easier.

E series named "Most made in America" vehicle

Since many of us have Ford based motorhomes, I thought I'd pass on this little prideful point about the E-series. No other vehicle made surpasses it with a 95% made in America parts content. Maybe we can't jump for joy at the gas mileage, but we are certainly supporting American jobs with our purchase. This article is a interesting read on the subject and has a few surprises on what we assume might be made in the USA.

If you feel your having computer related trouble, before you junk it, unplug then reconnect the harness into it. Sometimes the contacts corrode and that simple act will restore it. I got that tip from a Ford tech who also said do the same thing with the injector harness at the injectors.

If you can get a vacuum that lifts water I would do that as soon as possible, then maybe peel back the carpet to let the whole area dry out. You could also run a fan inside to promote drying, maybe a dehumidifier and perhaps turn up the heat to dry it as quickly as possible. If you can get it dried quickly the damage might be less than disastrous.

When I change my filter I don't go through any special procedure to de-pressure the system. I just get the special tool in place then wrap a rag around the area and it squirts harmlessly into the rag. Might save you some time. But you don't want to be smoking or any such thing when you do it.

I guess the real issue is how much quality do you need in a filter versus how much engine life do you want. It's the same issue with oil and oil filters too. I keep my rigs forever so I want as little dirt as possible. In the aircraft world they teach us that it only takes one teaspoon of dirt to destroy an engine, so I'm very anti-dirt. But I can see others taking a different view based on their needs.

It's a common problem usually caused by a bad IAC. A new one from Ford is about $100 bucks. Also check the little rubber elbows around the IAC- they go bad with the heat and break open and ruin the idle too. I have heard of people cleaning a bad IAC and making it good again but I don't know the specifics.

I did the 6300/7300 upgrade and it's been better than the old unit. The upgrade doesn't have the loud humming noise and I'm not boiling the batteries anymore. If I was aware of the 3-4 stage units I probably would have gone that route.

Your welcome. Mine doesn't last a couple of years cause I use the darn thing for everything now. It's almost too convenient. It's really nice not having to worry about long hoses and extension cords. An added bonus is it will also power air tools like a impact wrench to take your lug nuts off etc.

I've got two of them. Fairly quiet and good heat. The thermostat on one is a little inaccurate but good overall quality. I got tired of constantly replacing the cheapo's.

One other thing to try is a high speed Dremel tool with a small rotary cutting blade. You can cut a new slot for a srewdriver or cut the whole head off flush with the surface. Then after you get the ladder off, you might have enough fastener exposed to get a bite on it with the vise grips.

You can use any properly rated oil.. Nothing special about the ONAN brand save the price (It's higher) I use a good grade of synthetic in mine
NOTE: if you use synthetic do check it often.. Onans like to suck oil don't you know. Please do not ask ME why as I can't answer

I think this is right so here goes. Most air cooled engines use more oil cause their internal clearances are larger. They need that since they run hotter and expand more internally. Air doesn't cool as efficiently as water so the oil takes on more cooling load than a water cooled engine. It's the same in aircraft, motorcycles, and the old VW's so many of us used to own. So for our Onan's air and oil do the whole job.
